Twins, or a toddler plus a new baby? A double stroller is one of the biggest baby purchases you’ll make, and in Europe the main question is often not “which is best?” but “which one fits through my door, into the lift and onto the tram?”

This guide compares double and convertible strollers sold in the EU using brand-published widths, weights and folds.

The three types of double stroller

Side-by-side. Two seats next to each other. Both children get the same view and the same comfort, and it’s easy to tip back over kerbs. The catch is width: often 70–80 cm.

Tandem (inline). One seat in front of or above the other. Usually about as narrow as a single pram (around 60–65 cm), so it fits standard doors and lifts more easily. The lower seat may have a smaller weight limit and less view.

Convertible single-to-double. A single pram that takes a second seat or carrycot when you need it. Good for siblings, because you don’t have to buy a double before baby number two arrives.

There’s also the cheapest option for an older sibling: a ride-on board attached to your single pram (Bugaboo and Cybex both sell one).

First: measure your doors

Before you look at features, measure:

  • your front door and any internal doors you need to pass;
  • your lift (door opening and interior depth);
  • the car boot (floor and opening);
  • any regular shop or public-transport door you use.

Bugaboo, for example, marks the Donkey 6’s 74 cm width as fitting “a regular doorway” – but your building may not be regular. A tandem at 60–65 cm gives you more margin.

1. Bugaboo Donkey 6 – the convertible side-by-side

The Donkey is the best-known convertible side-by-side in Europe. It changes between Mono (single), Duo (one child plus a baby, or a single child with a side basket) and Twin configurations by widening the frame. Bugaboo’s published figures:

  • Width: 74 cm in double mode (Bugaboo); about 60 cm in single mode according to retailer listings.
  • Weight: Bugaboo’s US twin page lists 17.94 kg with two seats and 20.2 kg with two bassinets; Bugaboo’s comparison page lists the Donkey 6 Double at 19.04 kg with seat. Assume 18–20 kg in double mode.
  • Wheels: 25 cm front, 30 cm rear, puncture-proof.
  • Basket: up to 70 litres / 15 kg.
  • Children up to 22 kg per seat.

Bugaboo’s German shop listed a Donkey 6 Twin essentials set at €2,149 on 2 November 2026.

Best for: twins, or siblings where both children will ride for a long time; parents who want equal seats. Trade-off: width and weight; check your lift and boot first.

2. Joolz Geo3 – a single that becomes a tandem

The Geo3 converts from a single (Mono) to a Duo (sibling) or Twin setup, keeping a 60 cm folded width according to Joolz. Joolz lists the Mono at 13 kg with a seat (14.1 kg with a cot) and the Twin at 18 kg, folded 93 × 60 × 47 cm. Consumer organisation Which? lists the Duo at 17.72 kg. The upper seat is rated to 22 kg and the lower seat to 15 kg; each cot to 9 kg.

Best for: siblings, and twins in narrow city homes. Trade-off: the lower seat has a lower weight limit and a more limited view.

3. Cybex Gazelle S – compact sibling stroller

Cybex positions the Gazelle S as a stroller that grows from one child to two. It’s listed at 12.9 kg in single mode (frame, wheels, basket and one seat), 65 cm wide, and folds to 32 × 56 × 74.5 cm. It accepts two seats, two cots or car seats in various combinations and, according to Cybex, can fold with both seats attached.

Best for: families expecting a second child who want a single now and a tandem later.

4. UPPAbaby Vista V3 with RumbleSeat V3

The Vista V3 is a single pram (9 kg frame + 3.5 kg toddler seat) that takes a second seat, the RumbleSeat V3 (4.8 kg, for children up to 16 kg). The toddler seat is rated to 22.7 kg. UPPAbaby’s figures are from its Australian support pages; EU availability and pricing vary, so check with your local retailer.

Best for: families who want a premium single pram now and a second seat later.

5. Emmaljunga Double SENTO – Swedish sibling and twin stroller

Emmaljunga’s newest double, the Double SENTO, takes two seats, two carrycots or one of each. Emmaljunga lists a width of 73.5 cm, a chassis from 12.1 kg, four-wheel suspension and a foldable handlebar for buses and trains. Emmaljunga’s own shop listed the Double SENTO at €1,459 and the Double SENTO TWIN at €1,999 on 2 November 2026. Emmaljunga also states it was named “Best Choice 2026” by the Swedish site bäst-i-test.se.

6. Thule Urban Glide 3 Double – for running and rough ground

For active families, the Thule Urban Glide 3 Double is a side-by-side three-wheel jogger. Thule lists 16 kg and a folded size of 88 × 79 × 34 cm – so it’s wide, at 79 cm folded. It’s the choice if you want to run or walk on rough trails with two children; see best jogging stroller for running safety.

Alternative: a ride-on board

If your older child mostly walks and only needs a rest, a board clipped to your single pram is far cheaper and lighter than a double. Bugaboo says the Fox 5 Renew works with its comfort wheeled board+, and Cybex sells a Kid Board for the Priam. Check your pram’s compatibility list.

How to choose a double stroller

  1. Twins or siblings? Twins need two equal newborn positions (two carrycots or two lie-flat seats). Siblings often need one newborn position plus a toddler seat.
  2. Width. Measure doors and lifts. Tandems are usually 60–65 cm; side-by-sides 70–80 cm.
  3. Weight and fold. Doubles weigh 16–20 kg. Check whether it folds with seats attached.
  4. Lower-seat limits. On tandems, check the lower seat’s maximum weight and recline.
  5. Car seats. For twins, check whether two infant car seats fit at once and which adapters you need. Use seats approved to UN R129 (i-Size).
  6. Basket access. Tandem baskets can be hard to reach when both seats are fitted.

FAQ

What’s the narrowest double stroller? Tandems are generally narrowest. Of the strollers here, the Joolz Geo3 lists a 60 cm folded width and the Cybex Gazelle S 65 cm. Side-by-side models like the Bugaboo Donkey 6 (74 cm) are wider.

Will a 74 cm side-by-side fit through my door? Only your tape measure can answer that. Measure the narrowest point, including door handles and frames.

Is a double stroller worth it for a 2.5-year gap? Often a convertible single (Donkey, Geo3, Gazelle S, Vista V3) or a ride-on board is better value than a dedicated double, because the older child may soon walk most of the time.
