A lightweight stroller earns its keep every time you climb stairs to a flat, lift it onto a tram or bus, or put it in a small car boot. For many European city families, it becomes the stroller they use most, even if they also own a big pram.

This guide is about everyday lightweight strollers. If your main concern is fitting an overhead bin on a plane, read our best travel stroller for flying in Europe instead – there’s overlap, but the priorities differ.

How light is “lightweight”?

From published specifications:

  • Ultra-light buggies: about 6–7 kg (Cybex Libelle, Joie Pact Pro, Maxi-Cosi Lara², Joolz Aer², Cybex Coya).
  • Light everyday strollers: about 7–9 kg (Bugaboo Butterfly 2, Nuna TRVL lx, UPPAbaby Minu V3, Cybex Beezy, Maxi-Cosi Leona²).
  • Light full-size prams: about 10 kg (Bugaboo Dragonfly at 9.9 kg with seat, Thule Shine at 9.8 kg).
  • Typical all-terrain prams: 12–13 kg (Bugaboo Fox 5, Cybex Priam).

Brands measure differently. Some quote the frame only, some include the seat, and some (Nuna, for example) exclude the bumper bar, insert and rain cover. We note this where it matters.

*Bugaboo recommends a car seat or its baby nest for newborn comfort in the Butterfly 2.

1. Cybex Libelle – the lightest and smallest

Cybex lists the Libelle at 6 kg (German shop) or 6.2 kg (UK shop), and it has the smallest fold in Cybex’s range: 20 × 32 × 48 cm. It has an infinite recline, adjustable leg rest, front-wheel suspension, a one-pull harness and an XL UPF50+ canopy, and it’s travel-system ready with Cybex infant car seats. It’s rated from six months to about four years (22 kg).

Best for: a second stroller for a toddler, small flats, car boots and public transport. Trade-off: not for newborns; small wheels are designed for pavements.

2. Joie Pact Pro – ultra-light from birth for under €200

The Pact Pro is one of the cheapest from-birth ultra-light strollers from a major brand. Retail listings give 6.3 kg, a child-weight limit of 22 kg, four-wheel suspension and a carry handle with a transport bag. Retailers list a folded size of 66.1 × 47.1 × 24.3 cm, so it’s bigger folded than the Libelle. German retailers listed it from €159 on 2 November 2026.

Best for: families who want one cheap, light stroller from birth. Trade-off: check Joie’s page for the exact newborn configuration your market sells.

3. Maxi-Cosi Lara² – light, cheap and travel-system ready

Maxi-Cosi lists the Lara² at 6.4 kg, suitable from birth to 22 kg, with a folded size of 51 × 26 × 50 cm (H × W × L). It’s compatible with Maxi-Cosi infant car seats as a travel system. Dutch retailers listed it from about €215 on 2 November 2026. More budget options are in best budget stroller under €300.

4. Joolz Aer² – ultra-light with Dutch design

The Aer² replaces the Aer+. Joolz lists 6.5 kg and a folded size of 53 × 44 × 23.5 cm. If you see the older Aer+ (6 kg, 53.5 × 45 × 21.5 cm) on sale, it can be a good deal, but check what’s included.

5. Bugaboo Butterfly 2 – best all-round lightweight

At 7.3 kg and 44.8 × 24.5 × 55.5 cm folded, the Butterfly 2 is slightly heavier than the ultra-lights but adds a roomier seat that reclines flat, a fully upright position, an 8 kg basket and full suspension. Bugaboo rates it from 0 to 4 years (22 kg). €499 on Bugaboo’s German shop on 2 November 2026.

Best for: families who want one light stroller for daily use and travel.

6. UPPAbaby Minu V3 – light with a bigger basket

UPPAbaby lists the Minu V3 at 7.6 kg, suitable from birth to 22.7 kg, with a 9.1 kg basket and a fold of about 25 × 45 × 55 cm. It’s a US brand sold through EU retailers; check local availability.

7. Cybex Beezy – lie-flat comfort on a budget

The Beezy reclines fully flat, which is why Cybex rates it from birth. It weighs 8.5 kg, folds to 27 × 48.5 × 64.5 cm, has all-terrain wheels with all-wheel suspension and includes a bumper bar. Cybex’s German shop listed it at €299.95 on 2 November 2026; some retailers had it for less.

8. Maxi-Cosi Leona² – more wheel, still compact

Maxi-Cosi lists the Leona² at 8.84 kg with a folded size of 58.5 × 46 × 31 cm. Retailers describe large puncture-proof wheels, suspension and a front-wheel lock. Maxi-Cosi’s German shop listed it at €459.99; German retailers had it from €339 on 2 November 2026.

9. Bugaboo Dragonfly – the light full-size pram

If you want a proper bassinet for a newborn but can’t face a 13 kg pram, the Dragonfly is the one to look at. Bugaboo lists 9.9 kg with the seat and 10.5 kg with the bassinet, a width of 52 cm, and a one-piece fold of 36 × 52 × 90 cm with the seat attached.

Also consider: the Thule Shine (9.8 kg, folded 69 × 52 × 35 cm, per Thule) as another light full-size city stroller.

How to choose a lightweight stroller

  1. Newborn or toddler? If your baby is under six months, you need a lie-flat seat approved from birth, a newborn pack or carrycot, or a compatible infant car seat. The Libelle is six months and up.
  2. Where it lives. Measure your boot and hallway. A light stroller with a bulky fold may be less convenient than a slightly heavier one with a compact fold.
  3. Wheels vs weight. The lightest buggies have the smallest wheels. If your route includes cobbles or gravel, see best stroller for cobblestones.
  4. Basket. Ultra-lights often have small baskets. 8–10 kg capacity is generous.
  5. Handlebar height. Tall parents should check the handlebar height; one-piece fixed bars may be low.
  6. Safety standards. Look for compliance with EN 1888 and follow the brand’s age and weight limits.

Lightweight doesn’t mean flimsy

All strollers sold in the EU should meet the same safety requirements, regardless of weight. EN 1888 covers things like brakes, stability, harness strength, locking mechanisms and entrapment hazards. Part 1 covers pushchairs and prams for children up to 15 kg; Part 2 adds requirements for pushchairs for children above 15 kg up to 22 kg. Light strollers usually save weight with aluminium frames, smaller wheels, thinner padding and smaller baskets – trade-offs in comfort and capacity, not in the safety baseline.

FAQ

What’s the lightest stroller from a major brand? Among the strollers we checked, the Cybex Libelle at 6–6.2 kg is the lightest, followed by the Joie Pact Pro (6.3 kg), Maxi-Cosi Lara² (6.4 kg) and Joolz Aer² (6.5 kg).

Can a lightweight stroller be my only stroller? For many city families, yes – especially one rated from birth, such as the Butterfly 2, Minu V3, Beezy, Pact Pro or Lara². If you walk long distances on rough surfaces, a full-size pram may be more comfortable for your baby.

Is a light stroller less stable? Light strollers must meet the same EN 1888 stability requirements. Don’t hang bags on the handlebar; it can tip any stroller, and light ones especially.
