The Bugaboo Fox 5 and the Cybex Priam are two of the most popular premium prams in Europe. Both are designed to be used from birth to about four years, both are 60 cm wide, and both cost well over €1,000 once fully kitted out. They’re built on different philosophies, though: the Fox is sold as a complete 2-in-1 pram, while the Priam is a modular system you build from a frame, a seat pack and a carrycot.
Here’s how they compare on paper, using only the brands’ published specifications.
The short answer
- Choose the Bugaboo Fox 5 / Fox 5 Renew if you want a complete pram in one box, with the bassinet included, a slightly lower weight and a broad handlebar range for tall and short parents.
- Choose the Cybex Priam if you want more design choice, a carrycot that folds with the frame, car-seat adapters included, a two-wheel mode and the option of an electric e-Priam version.

Weight and everyday handling
On paper, the Fox is lighter with the seat (12.2 kg vs 12.9 kg). The difference is small – about the weight of a full water bottle – but if you lift the pram into a car boot every day or carry it up a flight of stairs, every bit helps.
Be aware that Bugaboo’s own pages list the Fox 5 Renew slightly differently: 12.3 kg “fully assembled” on the Dutch product page and 13 kg with seat on the comparison page. We’ve flagged this for re-checking; in practice, assume both prams weigh roughly 12–13 kg with a seat.
We haven’t pushed either pram, so we can’t tell you which “feels” better. What the specs suggest: the Fox’s published wheel sizes (22/30 cm) and puncture-proof tyres are aimed squarely at mixed terrain, and Bugaboo says the Renew can “coast over cobbles”. The Priam answers with all-wheel suspension, large rear wheels, a two-wheel mode for steps and sand, and an optional all-terrain front-wheel set. Fold and storage
This is one of the clearest differences.
- Fox 5: a one-piece, self-standing fold of 45 × 60 × 90 cm with the bassinet or seat attached, or a two-piece fold (seat removed) of 89 × 53 × 34 cm for a flatter package in the boot.
- Priam: a one-hand fold to 31.5 × 51.5 × 85 cm. Cybex also says the Priam Fold Lux Carry Cot folds together with the frame, which saves space during the carrycot months.
If your boot is shallow, compare the Fox’s 34 cm two-piece height with the Priam’s 31.5 cm depth, and measure your boot opening as well as its floor.
Newborn setup: bassinet vs carrycot
The Fox 5 is sold as a 2-in-1 with a bassinet included. Bugaboo lists a bassinet height of 54–74 cm and, on the Renew, a new PureBreeze mattress with summer and winter sides.
The Priam’s newborn option is the Priam Fold Lux Carry Cot, which Cybex says is suitable from birth to 9 kg (about six months) and includes adapters, a memory-foam mattress, a rain cover and a sun sail. It’s sold separately, so the Priam’s headline frame price isn’t comparable with the Fox’s complete price.
Both can also take an infant car seat to make a travel system. The Priam frame includes car-seat adapters for Cybex seats; the Fox needs Bugaboo adapters, sold separately. Check the brand’s compatibility list for your exact car seat, and choose one approved to UN R129 (i-Size) – see our stroller vs pram vs travel system explainer.
Seat and toddler years
Both seats are reversible (parent-facing or world-facing) and rated to 22 kg. Bugaboo publishes the most detail: a seat 39 cm wide and 50 cm long, extendable by 10 cm using the canopy and footrest, and three recline positions on the Renew. Cybex highlights a one-hand recline to lie-flat and an integrated, extendable leg rest. If you have a tall toddler, Bugaboo’s extendable seat is a published advantage; for the Priam, compare in a shop.
Price: comparing like with like
Prices change often and vary by country. On 2 November 2026 we saw:
- Bugaboo Fox 5 Renew 2-in-1 (chassis, bassinet, seat): €1,299 on Bugaboo’s German shop.
- Cybex Priam frame, Style collection: €749.95 on Cybex’s German shop; the Priam Style seat pack from €249.95 (Google Shopping listing for Cybex’s shop). That’s about €1,000 before adding the carrycot. The 2025 Priam frame was listed at €649.95.
So a full newborn-to-toddler Priam setup will usually cost as much as or more than a Fox 5 Renew, depending on which carrycot and fabrics you choose. Retailers often bundle the Priam frame, seat and carrycot at a discount, so price complete sets.
Warranty and buying from the brand
Bugaboo says strollers bought on bugaboo.com get a four-year warranty, and that a standard two-year warranty from another retailer can be doubled by registering the product online. Its Dutch shop also advertises a 100-day trial. Cybex directs warranty claims to the retailer you bought from (or Cybex’s contact form for its own shop). Check the terms in your country before you buy.
Sustainability
Bugaboo says the Fox 5 Renew uses recycled fabrics, bio-based plastic and recycled aluminium, and claims a 30% lower CO2 footprint compared with previous Fox models. We haven’t seen an independent verification of that figure. Cybex offers a free take-back service for end-of-life devices on its German shop.
Which should you choose?
The Fox 5 / Fox 5 Renew suits you if:
- you want everything for birth to toddler in one box;
- parents differ a lot in height (92–108 cm handlebar);
- you want the published wheel sizes and seat dimensions in black and white.
The Priam suits you if:
- you care about colour and frame finishes and like a modular build;
- you want the carrycot to fold with the frame;
- you want car-seat adapters included, a two-wheel mode, or the electric e-Priam for hilly routes.
Consider neither if you live in a small flat with lifts, take public transport daily or fly often. A compact pram such as the Bugaboo Dragonfly (9.9 kg with seat, 52 cm wide) or a from-birth travel stroller may suit you better – see best strollers 2026 and best lightweight stroller.
FAQ
Is the Bugaboo Fox 5 lighter than the Cybex Priam? Yes, on the brands’ figures: 12.2 kg with seat for the Fox 5 versus 12.9 kg for the Priam. The Fox 5 Renew is listed at 12.3–13 kg depending on the Bugaboo page.
Which folds smaller? The Priam’s single fold (31.5 × 51.5 × 85 cm) is more compact than the Fox’s one-piece fold (45 × 60 × 90 cm). The Fox’s two-piece fold (89 × 53 × 34 cm) is flatter but longer.
Can I use either from birth? Yes – with the Fox’s included bassinet, the Priam carrycot (sold separately) or a compatible infant car seat.
What’s the difference between Fox 5 and Fox 5 Renew? Bugaboo describes the Renew as the same core design with more sustainable materials, new colours and black buttons, a PureBreeze mattress, a longer apron and a pocket on the apron.
